I am not usually the most political of animals. Generally I prefer to put all my energies into my healing work and grandchildren. It doesn't leave much time for paying heed to the political squabbles of the day. However, I felt a deep anger boiling up inside me earlier today when I read on the internet about a petition going around to repeal an amendment UK that MPs have just voted on which would scrap key animal protections. Basically, the MPs are claiming that animals can't feel emotions or pain. This vote strips animals of the rights they had under EU law as sentient beings, which is a foundation stone of animal welfare.
As an animal communicator and healer, I know with every cell of my being that animals feel just the same emotions as humans. Sadness, joy, delight, irritation... In fact, many animals go one better than humans in that they are capable of unconditional love. Something which is extremely rare in the human species.
I've worked with animals suffering traumas and depression from cruelty and neglect; I've worked with animals who take on the illnesses and stress of their human guardians to relieve their human friends of it.
Whether you're a Brexiteer or a Remainer, surely we all want Britain to forge a better, kinder version of itself as we go forward. Why can't we take this opportunity to increase the protections on animals? To massively boost our environmental standards? We could lead the world in this way. Be trailblazers for animal rights and the environment.
EU law protects animal welfare and I do not want a Brexit Britain that treats animals like commodities that exist purely for our benefit. As it says in the petition, the only reason to deny animal sentience would be to make it easier to exploit them. Strip away that recognition and there’s no reason to worry about animal testing, barbaric hunting games, and gruesome slaughterhouses.
The vote narrowly passed in parliament and will go to the Lords. The online petition is about giving the Lords the backing they need to overturn this amendment as well as the loud message that the British people do not want a callous Britain.
If you feel as certain as I do that animals are most definitely sentient beings who have feelings and emotions, I would urge you to sign this online petition and pass it around to all your social platforms.
Today my thoughts are with my father and I wanted to share with you how grateful I am to him for instilling in me from such an early age a deep love for animals.
My father was the original Doctor Doolittle. Although his 'day job' was with human patients, he filled our home with all manner of sick and injured patients of the feathery, furry and scaly type.
It was the 1940s and we lived in a little village called Stanely, near Perth, in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Daddy ran a medical practice with two other doctors but his passion for animals was equal to the care he gave to humans. He could never pass any animal that needed help and had a habit of stopping the car when we were out on visits to rescue those that were in distress, be they a sheep, deer, cat, dog or bird, my father would make sure they were ok before he left the scene. He would often tend to a wounded bird or untangle a sheep from barbed wire.
Our home was basically an animal sanctuary. We had a large house with seven bedrooms and on the third floor there was a vast area that had been turned into an animal hospital.
We rescued many injured birds, of all kinds, mostly with broken wings. Daddy would splint them up and then they would have the freedom of the ‘animal hospital’ to relax with no fear of predators.
When their wings were mended, my twin sister Zandra and I helped them to find the confidence in flying again. One of us would hold a cushion and the other, from the far end of the room, would throw the bird up. It would fly across the room and be caught on the soft cushion landing. By this time, they had become very tame and we would have them on our laps, stroking, talking and giving them healing energy to bring them into total recovery.
Throughout the years, we must have had at least 30 different animals come to stay with us for healing. Including a chimpanzee, two baby alligators and several small snakes - one of Daddy's friends ran Edinburgh Zoo. On one trip to the seaside, we even ended up bringing home a sick seal.
Is it any wonder that I've had a lifelong passion for healing but especially for healing animals? It brings me no end of joy to see an animal return to health and they are beautiful to work on because, unlike humans, animals are open to receiving the healing energies of the universe. They have no blocks of ego and resistance so often found in humans.
So today, I raise a glass to my father and thank him for giving me the love of animals that has filled my life with such joy.

Hello Beautiful Soul!
As we move into the energy of the new moon a few days ago, I've realised it's a wonderful time for completing a lot of the 'stuff' that there is a tendency to ignore in the hope it goes away... it never goes away though, does it. And the longer we ignore it, the bigger it bites back when we least expect it! Or is that just me?
Anyway, I don't know about you but I have had a lot of 'stuff' on my plate lately and have been running about in all directions. As a result, I'm suffering from a little burn-out and fatigue so today I wanted to write a little bit about the health of people who spend their lives looking after the health and wellbeing of others -- healers.
If you're a healer, people seem to think you're not allowed to get sick yourself. As though, if you do, it shows you can't be very good at healing. But of course healers also get sick and tired just like anyone else.
As someone who's been an intuitive healer for most of the 71 years I've been lucky enough to walk this beautiful planet, I know very well that it doesn't matter how great a healer you are for others - you're still going to go down with some lurgy or ailment yourself at times. This is because we healers tend to do the very thing we advise our clients not to do... we work too much and burn ourselves out. We run around juggling clients, admin, friends and loved ones, animals, grandchildren (maybe just me again)... there's not much time left to sit down and turn those healing energies on ourselves. Of course, healers are still humans as well, with our own lessons to learn and mistakes to make and ailments of the mind, body and spirit simply reflect this. So-called dis-ease is not to be feared or denied in the 'oh no, I'm fine, I can still do it all...' kind of way. It is a beautiful message from Source Energy that something is out of balance - and how would we know that something needs rebalancing without these heavenly nudges?
All I really want to say to you is that if you're feeling under the weather, don't ignore the signs or drown them out with over-the-counter medications so that you can continue your gruelling schedule... love yourself enough to stop, rest, recover and regroup. If that means two days on the sofa with lemon and honey drinks and a DVD boxset, then that is my prescription for you!
